The Mentors’ Walk: Guiding Careers with Walking Thoughts

1) Duration

  • Ongoing Enrollment Model with rolling admissions.

  • Standard Commitment: 3–6 months of structured mentorship.

  • Session Frequency: 2–4 sessions/month, depending on student needs.

2) Workflow / Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

Step 1 – Mentee Enrollment
  • Online registration form via website/Google Form.
  • Students submit profile: academic background, interests, career goals, and preferred mentorship field.
Step 2 – Mentor–Mentee Matching
  • Matching algorithm/manual matching based on:
    • Student’s field of interest.
    • Mentor’s expertise and availability.
    • Personal career goals.
  • Notification emails to both parties with onboarding guidelines.
Step 3 – Session Delivery
  • Mode: Primarily online (Zoom/Google Meet), with offline sessions where feasible.
  • Session Types:
    • One-on-One Counseling (career planning, CV/PS review, skill mapping).
Step 4 – Feedback & Reflection
  • After each session, students submit a short feedback form.
  • Mentors also provide feedback on student engagement.
  • Quarterly reflection surveys to track growth.

4) SOP for One-on-One Counseling

Step 1 – Pre-Session
  • Mentor receives mentee profile form.

     

  • Mentor reviews academic/career background.

     

  • Mentor conducts basic research on mentee’s goals/questions.

     

  • Mentor drafts a personalized session plan.

     

Step 2 – During Session
  • Introduction & rapport building.

     

  • Clarify goals of the session.

     

  • Explore mentee’s questions in depth.

     

  • Present tailored advice, resources, and next steps.

     

  • Allow time for mentee’s questions.

     

Step 3 – Post-Session Plan (Mandatory Components)

Each mentee’s plan should cover:

  1. Immediate next steps (action items for 1–2 weeks).

     

  2. Long-term strategy (education, exams, career milestones).

     

  3. Resource list (books, websites, mentors, courses).

     

  4. Networking tips (professional platforms, groups).

     

  5. Skill development goals (soft skills, technical skills).

     

Step 4 – Follow-Up
  • Mentor sends brief written summary (bullet points).

     

  • Mentee logs the plan into progress tracking tool.
